"CROCODILDO", by Mike Lyte

Well, this will be the first review of a Portuguese album I will ever make. I am Portuguese myself, so it was predictable that I would, someday, review a Portuguese album. When it comes to lyrics, it will be difficult to explain, but oh well.. So, the first one being reviewed will be CROCODILDO, by Mike Lyte.
Mike Lyte, also known as Miguel Luz, is a Portuguese YouTube star who recently decided to start a rap career. On 20th March 2017, he released the first single of an upcoming album, called MILF, and then he released Epidemia ("Plague"), Cota and Alguém ("Someone"). Finally, on 11th December 2017, he released CROCODILDO.
The record was successful between the Portuguese teenagers, but it was never successful enough to chart on the Portuguese charts. I kinda understand why. The lyrics are somewhat immature, and it would be very difficult to see adults actually liking the record. It is that kind of comedy that teenagers find funny and stupid but adults find stupid and stupid.
I think that, instrumentally, CROCODILDO has some influences on rappers like Kendrick Lamar, Childish Gambino and Tyler, The Creator, but lyrically, it is pretty much Mike's personality as we've always seen on his YouTube channel. Comedic and sometimes nonsense and autobiographical lyrics. For example, Pastel de Nata is a song literally about Mike saying that he loves pastéis de nata a lot and buys one every time he sees an opportunity to do so and in Cocó É Tabú ("Poop is taboo"), Mike basically says you shouldn't be afraid of saying you want to poop because that it is a natural thing. There is one song, Epidemia, which has almost no comedy in it, being more of a social critic, specially for people who are always on the Internet, but that is an exception. I risk to say that the lyrics of three or four tracks remind me of the immature side of Watsky, comparable to songs like Pauly Shore Saw My Penis.
Now, I will be honest, I am not a very big fan of the album. I mean, it has some great tracks, but in general it is not something that I would listen to a lot. To start off, I don't really like the beats, not because they are bad, but because they are not really my vibe. I have always been into Alternative Hip-Hop and these beats are closer to the mainstream hip-hop, but not touching Trap. As I said before, closer to Kendrick Lamar, for example. BUT, I do like Alguém both lyrically and instrumentally (and I dare to say it has one of the best 2017 music videos I've seen).
I am indifferent to most of the tracks, but I unironically like DARAVOLTA and Epidemia. DARAVOLTA has the funniest lyrics of the record, with Mike describing society in a kind of schizophrenic way, even putting himself in a situation where he gets kidnapped by a girl he was trying to flirt with. Epidemia is just addictive, it is always stuck in your head and you end up liking it after having it stuck in your head for so long.
Then, there are songs that I don't like. Avó Trép ("Trap Grandma") is quite boring and I can't listen to it even unironically. It looks like a remix made by a 13 year old after recording his grandma's voice (because it is literally that. A remix song of his grandma's voice). The other songs are just indifferent to me. I don't mind to listen to them unironically, just for the laughs, but I wouldn't put them on my phone.

So, I will rate this album with a 11/20 I mean, it is not a bad record. When he announced the album, I thought it would be WAY worse, but it ended up being kinda decent. It has one very good track, Alguém, two good tracks, DARAVOLTA and Epidemia, one bad track, Avó Trép and all the others are indifferent to me. So, if most of the tracks are indifferent, the record would be a 10 or a 10,5, but because of those three tracks, I decided to give it a 11. To be honest, I think that he will get better and his next records will be better than this one. He actually has some talent, which surprised me. Now, he is an artist to listen to unironically, but I do believe he will surprise me in the future.

So, what do you think? Do you agree with me? Did you even understand what I said? I mean, if you don't understand Portuguese, this was probably very hard keep up with. But hey, you can tell me what should I review next! What should I review next? Tell me in the comments bellow!
